Product Description Athlete. Runner. Marathoner. Are these words you wouldn't exactly use to describe yourself? Do you consider yourself too old or too out of shape to run a marathon? But somewhere deep inside have you always admired the people who could reach down and come up with the mental and physical strength to complete such a daunting and rewarding accomplishment? It doesn't have to be somebody else crossing the finish line. You can be a marathoner. The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer is based on the highly successful marathon class offered by the University of Northern Iowa, which was featured in a Runner's World article titled "Marathoning 101." The class has been offered five times over 10 years, and all but one student finished the marathon. That is approximately 200 students -- all first time marathoners and many with absolutely no running background. This book follows the same 16-week, four-day-a-week workout plan. What makes the success rate of this program so much higher than any other? The special emphasis on the psychological aspects of endurance activities. You don't have to love to run -- you don't even have to like it -- but you have to realize that you are capable of more than you have ever thought possible. One participant in the program explained it like this: "I'm doing this for me -- not for others or the time clock. I just feel better when I run, plus it helps me to cope with things in general. The skills we've learned in this class don't apply just to marathoning -- they apply to life! Just like you never know what the next step in a marathon will bring, so too, you never know what will happen next in life. But if you don't keep going, you're never going to find out. By staying relaxed, centered, and positive you handle just about anything that comes your way." This is marathon running for real people, people with jobs and families and obligations outside of running. The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer has proven successful for men and women of all ages. Now let it work for you.

Worked for me August 25, 2010 F. M. (Texas) I never thought I'd be a Marathoner, but after 16 weeks and this book, I can now call myself one. I'm so happy a friend of mine told me about this book and although I wanted to read forward, I only read the corresponding chapter week after week.
I always thought a Marathon was a physical feat, but soon found out it was 90% mental. This book gives you all the mental tools you'll need and more...
Sale canceled by Amazon. Never contacted by seller. June 28, 2010 Renee724 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
The sale was canceled by Amazon a few days after I made the purchase and my account was charged. I never heard anything from the seller as to why the sale was canceled. My money was refunded, however it took over a week for the refund to be processed.
Based on college programs June 18, 2010 Doc Beech (Dallas Tx) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is nothing more than the college marathon program in print. If your going to spend the time doing it, you might as well sign up for the class and get the group support and teacher to go with it.
The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer June 16, 2010 Debi Nish (Orem, Utah) I was actually looking for a book for my Kindle and came across this one. I downloaded it onto my Kindle and then ordered a hard copy because it was such a great instructional book! The hard copy allows me to look forward and back, with bookmarks on several pages, and underlines and highlights! In fact, I am now training for a Marathon because of how this book teaches you to train - motivates you to train! The journal entries from former students are invaluable!! I wish I had had this book 30 years ago when I trained for my first marathon. I know that there are more than a dozen books out there on the subject of training and running for marathons and tri's, and after reading several of those I am glad that I found this one. It is like non other! I love it!!!
Followed the plan and ran a marathon June 16, 2010 Gary (Mesa AZ) I've been a casual runner for years and always thought those people that run Marathons must be insane. At 46, I had a crazy flash and decided I wanted to run a marathon. After reading a few reviews I bought the book and jumped right in. I signed up for the first marathon within 16 - 18 weeks (the San Diego) and away I went. The book was a huge help with great advice and pointers. The training was manageable, but I admit I was pretty wiped out after some of the longer runs. At any rate, the book will get you there if you follow the plan. It is an awesome experience -- do yourself a favor and just do it!
