Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Kick-start weight loss and boost beauty with an easy 4-day cleanse and a delicious 4-week antioxidant-based program from CBS’s The Early Show nutrition contributor In The O2 Diet, nutritionist Keri Glassman translates cutting-edge science into an easy-to-do program that will leave dieters energetic, healthy, and beautiful— inside and out. Glassman shows how dieters can—and should—indulge in foods like Caramelized Pear and Pecan French Toast and Flank Steak with
Chimichurri Sauce and actually lose weight! For once, it’s not about counting calories or restricting what one eats; it’s about eating more of the right things.
The diet is based on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale, a calculus developed by the USD A that measures how well a food protects against free radicals, the culprits behind many forms of cancer, heart disease, and symptoms of aging. Research demonstrates that eating a high- ORAC diet increases the antioxidant power of human blood 10 to 25 percent, strengthening memory and cognition, preventing cancer and heart disease, improving skin, and aiding in weight loss.
The O2 Cleanse kicks things off, maximizing weight loss, inspiring confidence, and delivering immediate results. The 4-week plan builds on initial success and includes simple guidelines for pampering and stress reduction that are proven to enhance weight loss. Plus it gives dieters real-world options for eating out and recipes that allow them to indulge at home with treats such as Chocolate-Covered Pecans and Sangria. This simple program is a positive, empowering new way to approach eating that will leave readers slim, sated and beautiful.

3 out of 5 stars Veggi contamination   August 11, 2010
Joseph Figueredo (Dahlonega, GA, US)
My email to Keri:

Keri, I have been on the O2 diet for about a month and have lost 15 lbs. My concern is that this diet requires large quantities of vegetables especially the leafy kind in addition to nuts of different kinds. This means the ingestion of raw foods that have not been cooked to destroy potential pathogens. All of the washing that would be practical will eliminate most bacteria but not all. As I see it especially with all of the recent reports of contaminated vegetables, the O2 diet puts me at a greater risk than a diet where most of what is ingested has been cooked. Experts in the field discourage using commercial washes like VeggiWash and caution handling and scrubbing soft vegetables and fruit where the skin can be damaged encouraging spoilage and contamination.

Your response is appreciated or I will blog this issue.

3 out of 5 stars Mixed Emotions   July 26, 2010

I have been following the O2 Diet since June 7th. I have lost 12 pounds, but nothing in the last two weeks. I am surprised that no one has commented on the meal preparation time committment and cost of the program. I really enjoy cooking, so for me this wasn't an issue, but I have spent an average of 45-60 minutes a day on food preparation, from dinner to the next day's breakfast, lunch and snacks. Lots of chopping and dicing for one person meals. In Northern Calif, the cheapest I can find lemons (at Trader Joe's) is $.39 each. With consuming at least 8 ounces of juice a day, I figure I am spending almost $2/day just on lemon juice. Thank goodness its summer and the berries are cheaper, but not super cheap at $2+ per basket for raspberries and blackberries. I also found there was quite a bit of waste if you don't read ahead on the recipes. For expample, in phase II on the first or second day you have a cobb salad that has 2 ounces of turkey and 2 ounces of ham in it - then, no turkey or ham for the rest of phase II so mine went to waste. Same with other ingredients like kale, cottage cheese and pork tenderloin. For the last two weeks of the 32 days, I picked the 7 days of the two-week program that I liked the best and then ate them two days in a row or every other day to keep waste at a minimum. I would recommend this program for a couple or roommates. Would be difficult with kids as some of the food might be too "weird" and to have to prepare separate meals for them would be extremely time consuming.

One the positive side - I thought all of the meals were very good and loved that the majority of the recipes were for a serving of one. Much easier to manage portion control this way! The chocolate cherry scones, tilapia with mango/avocado salsa and the flank steak with chimichurri sauce have been my favorites. (Be warned that the scones require almond meal that was $9.99/pound.) I found Trader Joe's and Whole Foods to have most of the products that I needed for the program.

4 out of 5 stars Finished 4-Day Cleanse   July 2, 2010

Hopefully I will have a chance to update this review. I am small, but wanted to eat healthier. I lost 4 pounds after just the 4-day cleanse. I was starving though for some odd reason, but my husband wasn't. The best thing about this diet is my skin feels so soft and smooth. It's unbelievable. If you can get through the 4-day cleanse WITHOUT cheating, the rest of the diet seems pretty easy. I read reviews that a lot of people couldn't get through it, but I was able to do it. It is a very common-sense type of diet, but so far, I found it worth the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Excellent Excellent   June 27, 2010

My wife and I had tremendous success with this book. We actually had a consult with Keri to get us kick started before jumping into the diet. Last Friday marked the end of phase three; we both lost down 15+ pounds each. This has been a great experience!

We learned so much and know that reading Keri's book and going thru the three phases has changed our mind set with regard to eating and more importantly, preparing foods.

We have two small children and learning the right way to eat and teaching them the right way to eat is of paramount importance to us.

We are still foodies:))) but better educated ones. We look forward to Keri's new book,

We highly recommend this book!

4 out of 5 stars O2 diet working for me!   June 26, 2010

I read all the reviews before I bought the book.. some were saying it was similar to a lot of other books you may have already bought. It's true...there are a lot of the same principles. But, I can tell you, this is one book that is HELPFUL from start to finish, from shopping lists to eating on the run. I started it a month ago, and even with a few crazy weekends, I've lost 14 pounds.. I feel good, I'm RARELY hungry (which is a main concern for me!), and I am actually having cravings for red peppers or strawberries for snacks. Who'da thunk it? :)
